Karen recently retired from the Metropolitan Police at the rank of Detective Sergeant. She has always had a passion for flowers and working with them was something that she found relaxing and a world away from her day job.
Karen studied Creative Floristry at Stanmore College of Excellence from 1999 to 2001 gaining a City& Guilds qualification. Eager to push her new skills, she ran her own florist shop on the London Underground. She found it challenging, catering to the needs of thousands of passengers, ranging from those who needed a bouquet in a hurry to wedding planning and corporate events. Karen designed bespoke floral tributes covering all occasions.
The designs Karen will teach others can be completed in an hour although some may take a little longer, but the one on one teaching of this sought after skill is worth the time and effort involved.
Currently a floristry tutor for Edinburgh City Council, Karen teaches adults all aspects of both creative and mainstream floristry. She continues with freelance floristry work and loves to mix her skills of teaching with those of floral design.
Teaching methods: Karen has always believed that teaching by demonstration is the most effective way of learning a new skill. She will give both verbal and step by step practical examples. Participants can be gathered around one table or be visited individually to check on progress and they will learn the origin of flowers/foliage, how to care for them, and how to use them in wonderful floral displays.
Some of my designs we could create together:
Fresh flower table centres
Hand tied Bouquet
Modern flower tree
How to make a wedding bouquet.
So many more!
